X-treme Camp
Children ages 10-15

If you consider yourself daring, this camp is for you! Join us as we climb a rock wall, go horseback riding, or for a full day paddling experience in canoes. This program will take you out of the everyday hum-drum of summer air-conditioning and help you learn to venture into the world to explore!

All camps meet at Rock Springs Nature Center and run from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. A fee of $60/camper for each camp covers all activities and transportation, except lunch.

Paddle the Sangamon
June 20
Take a canoe trip down a river in your own backyard! This full-day paddling adventure takes you from Lake Decatur to Lincoln Homestead. Bring a lunch that doesn’t need refrigeration, as we will be carrying it with us and picnicking on the river! Dress to get wet, just in case! All other gear will be provided.
Climb a Rock, Touch a Gem
July 11
First we will visit a Gem Museum for a special tour of fossils, gems, and elemental rocks. Then we’ll break for sack lunches to fuel up so you can challenge yourself to reach the top! It will take muscles and willpower but you can do it! Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and clothes to get dirty at a Rock Climbing Gym inside a corn silo.
Horseback Adventure & Wildlife State Park
July 25
Whether you’re an experienced ranch hand, or have never ridden a horse, you’ll love taking a trail ride during this exciting camp! Then, travel to a Wildlife Prairie State Park to see incredible predators, bison, and many other animals that lived in Central Illinois before settlement. Be sure to pack a lunch.
